                        Position Description

                        Read the requirements below for each of the appointed positions. You will indicate your interest in being selected to these positions on your online registration for Spring Conference. Make sure you tell your advisors you have applied for these positions as they can advocate for your selection on the Leadership Recap form due on the December registration deadline. The earlier you submit you registration the better. 

                        Legislative Committee Chairs:

                        Will be responsible for leading committee sessions, keeping the committee on track by setting and adjusting the committee docket as needed. 

                        Qualifications:

                        • Red & White: in the 10th - 12th grade
                        • Blue: in the 9th grade or 10th grade
                        • Knowledge of parliamentary procedure
                        • Strong public speaking skills
                        • Recognized leadership ability
                        • Strives for good citizenship and servant leadership skills
                        • Must have attended at least 1 previous conference (White and Red)

                        Inspirational Leader: 

                        Will be responsible for an opening devotion or inspirational  presentation at the beginning of each House or Senate session as well as either an invocation or benediction at one of the General Assemblies. In order to recognize the diverse make-up of our students, we will seek representation from a variety of religions.

                        Qualifications:

                        • Willing and able to speak in public
                        • Recognized servant leadership skills
                        • Strives for good citizenship 

                        Senate, House and Committee Clerks: 

                        Will take and report attendance, record and report messages to body, read bills and amendments, track actions and amendments of all business of the body. Committee Clerks will be responsible for committee sessions, while Senate and House Clerks will be responsible for their respective chamber sessions. Students may choose between a reading or a writing clerk position for Senate and House.

                        Qualifications:

                        • Willing and able to speak in public
                        • Willing and able to collaborate with chair/PO to keep body on track and organized. 
                        • Recognized servant leadership skills
                        • Strives for good citizenship 
                        • Responsible and organized 

                        NIF Committee Chairs:

                        Will be responsible for leading committee sessions, keeping the committee on track by setting and adjusting the committee docket as needed. 

                        Qualifications:

                        • In the 10th - 12th grade
                        • Knowledge of NIF procedure
                        • Strong public speaking skills
                        • Recognized leadership ability
                        • Strives for good citizenship and servant leadership skills
                        • Must have attended at least 1 previous conference in the NIF program


                        Legislative Oversight Chairs:

                        Will be responsible for leading Oversight sessions, keeping the committee on track, and choosing the order of witness interviews.

                        Qualifications:

                        • In the 10th - 12th grade
                        • Knowledge of parliamentary procedure and Oversight procedure
                        • Strong public speaking skills
                        • Recognized leadership ability
                        • Strives for good citizenship and servant leadership skills
                        • Must have attended at least 1 previous conference and participated in the Oversight program previously


                        Family Group Leaders:

                        Will be responsible for leading Family Group sessions, keeping the group on track by planning activities, and creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

                        Qualifications:

                        • In the 10th - 12th grade
                        • Strong public speaking skills
                        • Recognized leadership ability
                        • Strives for good citizenship and servant leadership skills
                        • Must have attended at least 1 previous conference


                        Press Media & Copy Editor

                        Will be responsible for assisting the Editor in Chief, editing either media or writing, and overseeing press delegates in their respective areas.

                        Qualifications:

                        • In the 10th - 12th grade
                        • Experience either in video editing or written editing
                        • Recognized leadership ability
                        • Strives for good citizenship and servant leadership skills
                        • Must have attended at least 1 previous conference in the press program


                        Governor's Cabinet Chief of Staff

                        Will be responsible for assisting the Youth Governor, keeping Governor's Cabinet meetings on track, and advocating for the Youth Governor's agenda.

                        Qualifications:

                        • In the 11th - 12th grade
                        • Strong public speaking skills
                        • Recognized leadership ability
                        • Strives for good citizenship and servant leadership skills
                        • Will be appointed by the Youth Governor, so should both contact the Youth Governor or YMCA MYIG staff with interest and apply for the Governor's Cabinet


                        MJP Presiding Judges

                        Will be responsible for presiding over MJP trial rounds alongside an evaluating judge from the legal community, ruling on objections, and may not compete on an MJP team during or before their term.

                        Qualifications:

                        • In the 10th - 12th grade
                        • Knowledge of MJP procedure and objections
                        • Strong public speaking skills
                        • Recognized leadership ability
                        • Strives for good citizenship and servant leadership skills
                        • Must have attended at least 1 previous conference in the MJP program


                        There will be virtual trainings that will be required for all leadership students! Please keep any eye out for emails or check this page regarding your trainings!
