I find it nearly impossible to express my love and passion for Michigan Youth in Government with words. Any attempt to explain what this program means to me and so many others only falls short of reality. There is something unbelievably empowering and motivating when you feel you actually have the power to inspire change, and Youth in Government brings that feeling into the hearts of every single student.
As soon as you walk into our conference center during one of our conferences, it becomes clear just how enormous an impact this program has on each of it’s participants. Lifelong friendships are made, students gain confidence, and each person walks away feeling called to action to make real governmental change.
When you’re in High School it’s easy to feel that many things are out of your hands; that you have to follow rules with little or no say in the matter. Michigan Youth in Government changes that. It gives a newfound power and sense of civic responsibility to the next generation of leaders, activists, and politicians.
Instilling the understanding of the importance of government into our next generation is vital to our success as a country. Michigan Youth in Government is unique in the fact that unlike most tense political climates, we endorse a friendly and open-minded atmosphere, making all feel comfortable and welcome. I look forward to having a chance to shape Michigan’s future.
