A PROCESS OF LEADERSHIP

"I have found Youth in Government to be an extremely valuable learning experience.  It is an extremely diverse program. I am proud to say that I am leading a program with views and perspectives from every facet of society, and from every tier on the economic ladder. At the conference, I see no divide between rich and poor. All are united and committed in crafting and reforming legislation that will improve our state. At Youth in Government, I will admit that students arrive in cliques, depending on their region. Delegations tend to stick together for the first day or two. I can confidently say however, that by the end of the conference, students have not only reached outside of these groups in the work environment, but also interact during free time.  We can see from these few days at Youth in Government, the parochialism that we so often associated with politics disappears. Friends are made across county and regional lines, and as a result, we create new and creative ideas without being held back by political ideology. While each person holds his or her own philosophy, our common cause unites us and allows us to work through any obstruction. It is indeed an honor to serve as 2011 youth governor."

"Youth in Government has been such a rewarding experience. I still remember how nervous I was my first year. I was a small, out-spoken young lady in the Blue House and I knew from the first GA that I wanted to one-day serve as Governor. Every year that I participate in the program I learn a little more about myself, and become more open minded. One thing that I can say is that MYIG is the true meaning of a mosaic. We all come from different backgrounds, regions, with various beliefs, and somehow we all connect on some level. MYIG is that bridge that connects us all and allows us to empathize and understand one another. The most rewarding part of Youth in Government is the impact that is has had on my life in regards to my self-growth. I have become more confident and deepened my love and zealous for politics! It has given me values, friends, family and memories that will last me a lifetime. There is simply nothing like it. This program means so much to me, and to be elected Youth Governor was a dream come true. I want to encourage, build up, and mold future leaders. I want to provide delegates with the same amazing experience and guidance that I've had. As your Governor, I will keep my promise and give your ideas a voice. I will stay moderate on issues and always do what's best for our conference and state. Together we will make this an awesome, productive, and innovative year. I am so honored and blessed to serve as your 2011 Youth Governor, and I hope to make this the best year yet!"

"Over the years, Youth in Government has proved to be an excellent learning opportunity for its participants. One of the best ways to learn a skill is through first-hand experience, and Youth in Government provides just that. To walk through the hallowed halls of our beautiful State Capitol and to sit in the house and Senate Chambers and debate legislation you have created will, I’m sure, prove to be a memorable experience."
